DAY 7: 40 DAY RAW FOOD CHALLENGE

Terrible Monday morning blues!! I had thought that after the weekend my diet will fall in a lovely routine and that I will get enough time to plan for the week ahead. But I realise that I got very little time over the weekend and my diet routine has not become any smoother :( I also notice angry black and blue bruises on my forearms the size of Rajma at 4-5 places and then see a large 3-4 inch one on my right calf. I had seen a tiny one rise on my left forearm a couple of days ago but ignored it thinking I must have absentmindedly bumped into something. Perhaps my body is punching me back from inside like I keep abusing it occasionally by neglecting my exercise routine or routinely dumping junk when it is not required. I freak out as I do not remember fighting with anyone in the famous Mumbai local and being knocked out or even bumping into anything to be showing bruises all over! I worriedly call S. He tells me to relax as this is one of the usual symptoms of detox. Some people get rashes, some excessive itching, some bad body odour. I thank God silently for it not being anything else.

I walk into the kitchen aimlessly. I come across some dry Kadipatta (Curry leaves) lying in some corner of the kitchen, that I kept storing in the hope of making chutney someday. Some part in my brain wakes up and smiles, and I finally get down to making it. I grind the kadipatta into a lovely chutney that with dab of ghee, will go so well with rotis . Wistful thinking. I shouldn't be thinking about rotis when I am on a raw diet :(

Anyway here's how to make the Kadipatta Chutney... I used dried Kadipatta but if you are using fresh curry leaves, fry them in some (about a couple of teaspoons) oil till they are crisp

Ingredients of the Kadipatta Chuytney

Ingredients:

1 large katori Curry Leaves (dried or roasted as is prefered)

2 table spoons Roasted Chana Dal (called dale in Marathi)

2 - 3 tablespoons grated dry coconut

Some Tamrind

1- petals of garlic

1 tsp cumin

1/2 tsp red chilli powder

Salt to taste

A pinch of Sugar

Method: Coarsely grind everything in a mixer and enjoy this yummy chutney

Since I couldn't think of anything else, today is a simple salad of Tomato & Onion with salt & lemon dressing. And just to make it a bit more interesting and filling I add a handful of soaked & drained poha (beaten rice) to it. This makes my lunch with a mix of grated coconut, crushed groundnut and jaggery for desert. I also pack a tiny dabba of kairi pickle for some added taste

The rest of the day I nibble on fruits like chikoo, figs, mix of dry fruits, cucumber & carrot sticks with my raw mango & mint chutney.

On my way home, a friend tells me she picked up an assortment of berries from Hypercity on yesterday. I excitedly head to Hypercity as I am bored eating the same set of fruits everyday, but sadly all they have left is blueberries and are sold out on the mulberries and raspberries.

Day 7 ends with my tired bones doing some more spring cleaning and gorging on the blueberries and makhana chivda :)
